This month, we got to celebrate with Herts Libraries for their part in Bushey Festival. Our show Big Book Tall Tales was performed in a bright children’s space with lots of displays up about this months Summer Reading Challenge! We had lots of fun with everyone, trying to find the words in the story..
‘Big Book Tall Tales’ is a story set in a forgotten library which the Caretaker, our narrator, visits and takes care of. He talks to the audience about how much he loves books and while cleaning the library, discovers a massive 6ft tall book! But, there are no words left on the brightly coloured pages as they’ve been washed away after being left out in the rain and he needs the audience to help suggest different words that could be found on the book. By accident, he falls into the Book and is transformed into Book Man (the Big Book is worn by the narrator!) who then takes the audience on a journey through the water cycle to show how the words are washed away and how to find them!
Booster Cushion Theatre have been touring our Big Book shows for over 25 years to schools, libraries and venues. All of our Booster shows feature Big Books, some over 6ft tall, bigger than what the audience will have ever seen before. This makes our shows ideal for World Book Day as with such wacky and fun books, the audience is encouraged to take a greater interest in reading and books themselves!
Please note that we also have 6 other touring Big Book shows, including ‘Little Red Riding Hood and Friends’, ‘Alan In Wonderland and the Three Goats Plus’, ‘Old McDonald and the Three Pigs Plus’ and ‘Hansel, Gretal and You..Who?’
A Booster Cushion Theatre show is a great alternative to World Book Day storytelling. If you have any ideas, please contact us on 01727 873 874 or email admin@booster-cushion.co.uk. We have provided storytelling sessions with our Big Books throughout the UK with schools, library services and venues and want to ensure that children are always encouraged to take a greater interest in books.
