Booster Cushion Theatre was formed in 1989, specifically to work with children to encourage them to take a greater interest in books. Since then Booster Cushion Theatre has performed to over 400,000 people all over the country providing quality work with care and commitment, and continues to do so.
We specialise in shows for primary aged children and their families, which are full of playful surprise, imaginative improvisation and larger than life books – some of which are over 6ft tall! Our work is suitable for a diverse range of communities, and has constantly received positive feedback.
We have and continue to perform to every county in the UK, regularly tour throughout Scotlands and the Highlands with a regular tour throughout September and have most recently started an annual tour of Northern Ireland during October.

INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS
HOW MUCH SPACE DO WE USE?
All of Booster Cushion Theatre’s shows are completely portable and can be performed inside or out, the technical requirements being minimal. We just need a performance space of 4m x 4m x 2.5m. For inside shows, a hall or similar space with 2 power sockets is ideal.
Our team has over 25 years working in schools, liaising with staff before and on arrival to ensure that we can set up as quickly as possible – minimizing the disruption to your day! We are very used to working around lunchtimes and other activities that may be running in our performance space.
HOW LONG ARE OUR SHOWS?
Our shows last around 45-50 mins, with workshops lasting an hour. At Booster Cushion Theatre, we are happy to adapt our shows to fill in with school timetables, and have a variety of show lengths including 20-30 minute versions which can be provided on request.
WHICH AGE RANGE ARE OUR SHOWS TARGETED FOR?
All of our shows are written and adapted for the whole primary school age range. We specially adapt our shows due to it’s partly improvised nature throughout the show, to make it a perfect fit for your pupils!
Some schools choose to include their Nursery groups within whole school productions. We find that this can sometimes be overwhelming for children who aren’t used to such large and busy events, so suggest they are placed on benches around the edges to make them feel comfortable and have a meet and greet with a character before the show.
Alternatively, we offer a heavily discounted show for just nursery class shows booked in the same day.
WHAT INSURANCE DO WE CARRY?
All of our staff carry up to date Disclosure Certificates and photographic ID. We hold full public liability & employers insurance to the value of £5 million and all of our equipment is PAT tested annually.
