A traditional tales theatre show from Booster Cushion Theatre is a great way to watch the story that children will have all heard before, get totally twisted right before their eyes through a Big Book. We specialise in bringing theatre to children that is funny, accessible and features lots of chances for them to take part and feel as if they are telling the story themselves.
One of our most popular shows for traditional tales is Big Goldilocks and the Three Bears Plus…. a comical retelling of the fairytale told through a big 6ft book with pop ups and props that come out of the Big Book! There are lots of surprises hiding throughout the tale in disguise, Big Goldilocks has wandered into the forest and is causing such a mess. She’s scared away all the forest animals on an Animal Rescue Centre who went off singing The Animals Went In Two By Two and now Ted the narrator watched her go into the Three Bears House. But in this version, it’s the Seven Bears House and they don’t seem to be too happy to see Goldilocks eating all their cereal…
Our versions of traditional tales are often used as part of a ‘traditional tale’ themed season/week or to introduce children to retelling their own stories. Many schools, libraries and venues have enjoyed our versions of the stories as they are generally well known to the children and they get great enjoyment about seeing the stories turned on their heads and as a version they definitely will never have heard before.
We travel with a full backdrop and lights to present our shows and have a quick set up and down time of an hour and a half. However, we can be flexible with a variety of spaces and have performed just out of our prop suitcases busker style or just with one of the Big Books. This is because we aim to take theatre everywhere to everyone so all our shows are adapted with this in mind.
