We have been touring our Red Riding Hood theatre show for early years a lot in the last couple weeks and have had some really great shows.We recently visited the Three Foot Festival in Essex where we got to have lots of fun finding our youngest wolf auditionees and members of Jack’s Baked Beans band. We always have lots of fun at Three Foot and Little Red Riding Hood and Friends is a great show to introduce children to live theatre for the first time.
Some lovely feedback from the audience – “Thank you for providing a fabulous end to the 3 foot festival for my 4yo son and 3yo niece and myself, I’ve never seen them so engaged and laughing so hysterically. It was the festival highlight for us.”
A friendly, funny and nontraditional version of the fairytale is told by Little Red Riding Hood’s friend, as she is late for the story! He tries to read pages from the book but he finds out that it is empty, so he asks the audience for help in remembering all the characters. We get to meet the characters of Little Red’s family from mum, dad and her grandma but he still can’t get the story right.So Cinderella arrives to help, dancing a conga with her Jack’s Baked Beans Band and suggests auditions to find the Wolf to end the story.
Children get to take part in all aspects of this story, as if they aren’t responding and helping the narrator, then they are up on stage with the narrator – helping to audition to be the wolf, playing in Jack’s Baked Beans band and dancing a conga with Cinderella.
This is an incredibly flexible show and has been used as special treats for early years in all kinds of settings from nurseries to children’s centres to special early years festivals from all the way in Scotland to the Three Foot Festival in Essex. We have worked in a variety of spaces, big or small, inside or out – as one of our aims is to bring theatre anywhere!
