Booster Cushion Theatre has been touring to nurseries for over 25 years and we always have lots of chances in all our shows for the audience to take part.
A traditional tales theatre show for nursery which is ideal as a starter show for early years is ‘Old McDonald and the Three Pigs Plus…’. Our muddled story is told through a 5m wide book with 2m pop ups, pop outs of a barn and even fields which can be peeled off to harvest! The three pigs are sick of singing eieio every day and decide to move out of the barn to set up their own houses. They move across the farm and meet lots of different animals and help to harvest the food growing in the field. But they start to build their houses and are very unhappy to see that there is a wolf trying to blow them all down!
There’s lots of participation in this story as children get to use our silly props to pretend to be farm animals, harvest in the fields and even play the Three Pigs! Many nurseries have enjoyed using this story as a lead up to farm visits or learning about different kinds of animals.
We aim to make our shows as flexible as possible to fit into different spaces, big or small, inside or out so that we can bring theatre everywhere to everyone. Our shows have lots of improvisation throughout them so there’s loads of chances for shows to be tailored specifically to the group, from what’s going on around the day, what the narrator has overheard while setting up and the surroundings of the space. Every show is unique depending on who’s watching!
