Booster Cushion Theatre specialises in storytelling with Big Books.The books are bigger than some children will have ever seen with lots of participation. Book Man recently visited Allendale Arts Week with his rainbow. We had a great time guessing colours and all the characters of the water cycle visiting. This show was lots of fun as it has not been seen in Dorset for years and the whole audience made their own versions of the stories and found the words on the Big Book’s pages!
Big Book Tall Tales is told through a big 6ft tall book which is even worn by narrator for part of the show (see pictures below for example!). The story takes place around a janitor who is looking around an old storage room and stumbles across an old book whose words have been washed away. He falls into the book transforming into Book Man and needs the audience’s help to find out where the words have washed away to. The audience helps to think of their own story as well as having a trip around the water cycle!
We aim to make our theatre shows as interactive as possible and always get people answering to the narrator or at least 15 children up to play some of the parts of the story. Children love to take part and feel as if they are telling the stories themselves. For example, in Big Book Tall Tales children get to come up to the book, help turn the pages and tell us the stories they would make as well as playing the different parts of the water cycle from green grass, blue raindrops, purple rain to the sun’s rays!
Booster’s shows aim to be as flexible as possible and can be performed in small spaces, schools, theatres, libraries and festivals. They can be played inside or out and we can either play with or without power sources.
