Booster Cushion Theatre have been touring for 25 years presenting our comical versions of fairytales to primary aged children. We have worked in schools, venues, libraries and festivals encouraging children to read with our Big Books!
One of our most popular fairytale shows is ‘Little Red Riding Hood and Friends’, this is a comical fairytale show that mixes up popular characters from well known tales. Little Red’s friend arrives to tell us the story but is shocked when he finds that there are no pages in the book! So he asks the audience for help and they all help the narrator remember the characters from the story – her mum, lumberjack dad fresh back from working with the Queen of Hearts and her sleepy grandma. He decides to call Red’s best friend Cinderella to tell the rest of the story, who arrives dancing a conga with her backup Jack’s Baked Beans Band and suggests the way to find the rest of the story is with the Wolf. But it looks like he might be hiding in the audience…
Booster aims to tour our theatre anywhere, and so we travel with a full backdrop, props, a Big Book and come with our own lights to create a theatre space. All of our shows are ideal for ages up to 11 and their families as well as offering a chance for follow up work in schools. The shows feature a lot of participation from the audience and we always aim to get at least the whole audience joining a long and 15 children up as characters in the story.
