Booster Cushion Theatre for Children’s A Christmas Carol school show is a great way to end the term or introduce the traditional Dickensian tale to primary aged children. Our version of the story is a comical alternative to traditional storytelling, with a solo performer becoming the characters in the story and encouraging the children to join him and become the characters themselves!
There’s lots of participation from the audience in this version of the tale, as the children get to answer questions from the storyteller about Dickensian times and set the scene for A Christmas Carol by learning about the time period it was set in. There’s lots of chances to take part as characters to, whether it be as ‘Bob Cratchit’ ‘Fezziwig’, Scrooge’s ‘Christmas Carollers’ or ‘Tiny Tim’.
Featuring a tall pop up Big Book and lots of props to set the scene, with each turn of the Big Book’s pages comes a new chapter of the story. Marley is brought to life, the ghost of Christmas Past is a newspaper seller, Christmas Present has one child becoming Bob Cratchit and counting money with Scrooge, children are invited up to be Scrooge’s ‘Christmas Carollers’ and there is a visit from the ghost of Christmas Future.
There is lots of chances for follow up work in schools with this show and it is a great introduction for primary aged children. Fun for both pupils and teachers, by having A Christmas Carol school show, you can end the term with a treat. While ideal for KS1 and KS2, we also have a special super soft, not scary version for early years.
