Booster Cushion Theatre have presented our work to KS1 groups throughout the UK for over 25 years. We specialise in bringing them work that is accessible, funny and relevant to topics that they might be learning about in KS1 to encourage and inspire them in this learning. Our theatre stories are brought to life through using our Big Books and lots of audience participation so that children feel as if they are telling the story to.
Old McDonald and the Three Pigs Plus… is one of our most popular shows for KS1, as it is a silly show with lots of wordplay, a 5m wide book with pop ups and lots of children getting to play farm animals and helping with the harvest. This has been used for KS1 groups that are learning about the retelling of traditional tales, farming and animal topics.
The Three Pigs are fed up of singing eieio every day on the farm and so decide to move out of the barn and further across the farmer’s fields. On their way, they meet lots of other farm animals and help to harvest all the different foods that are growing in the fields. They have lots of fun singing along to our retold nursery rhyme to. But soon when they try and build their houses, there’s a wolf trying to blow them down and they need the audience’s help to stop him.
This is a funny production for KS1 children and has been used by several schools as a way to develop an opportunity for children to see live theatre and engage in the curriculum. Our interactive shows provide a good base for follow up work and many children have written their own retold versios of the stories over the years as follow up work. A Booster show aims to be as flexible and accessible as possible for your school to ensure for minimal disruption for a normal school day, with the ability to fit in a variety of school spaces. As the shows are part improvised, they also have the chance to be developed for the groups that are watching, working with their ages and abilities.
