Recently Booster Cushion Theatre performed at Slough Libraries to celebrate the Summer Reading Challenge with Hansel, Gretal and You…Who?, a comical retelling of the fairytale. We had a great time at the library, with lots of pictures to see below! This is an ideal traditional tales show for KS2, KS1 and even early years to encourage them to take a greater interest in reading, thanks to our massive Big Box Book.
Hansel, Gretal and You…Who? is a funny retelling of the fairytale with lots of twists and surprises. Hansel and Gretal have been turned into oven gloves and decide that they should go on a journey around the world to see if anyone can turn them back. On their journeys, they learn how to say hello in lots of different languages, discover a map of the world and end up getting lost in a forest. The forest animals are no help to the siblings as all they want to do is talk about their favourite sports and even get Hansel and Gretal to take part in an audience wide relay race. But during the race, they get lost and end up trapped in the witches kitchen with no one but the Gingerbread Man to help them. Luckily he seems to have thought of a special plan to save them!
There’s lots of chances for participation in this show with children taking part as the forest animals and miming their favourite sports, being a Gingerbread Man and discovering maps of the world.
Booster Cushion Theatre aims to take theatre everywhere to everyone, so all our shows have been designed with a variety of spaces in mind to be flexible, to fit into big or small areas, inside or out and adaptable to different age ranges. The shows have been used by those working with KS2 to encourage children to take a greater interest in the subjects that they’re learning about or as a way to inspire follow up work, such as writing their own retellings of traditional tales.
